Team Adventure Camp

 OBJECTIVE:

To provide a challenging, 2-day team adventure camp, which will develop group initiative, problem solving skills and cooperation amongst your group. Focus activities to include camping, navigation, abseiling and rafting.

WHAT TO BRING – WHAT IS SUPPLIED:

Each team member must bring suitable walking shoes or boots (thongs or sandals are not acceptable, the group will navigate off-track in rough terrain), a small day pack with a woollen jumper or fleece, rain jacket, sun hat, sunscreen and any personal medication, asthma puffers etc.)

Each team member will be given a map, a compass & safety whistle, a group two-way radio, drinking water and trail snacks to carry.

 TEAM COMPETITION:

  • Each team will commence their adventure with 100 points.
  • A number of navigation check-points are clearly marked with flags throughout the navigation course. Minor check-points assist the team to stay on track, additional navigation aids and track information is located at major check-points. Ten points will be awarded to those teams that locate each major check-point without assistance. Teams will be advised of a cut-off time by which they need to locate each major check-point (check-points can be achieved within time through good navigation and a normal walking pace). The team radio officer will call base, identifying the navigation card that they have located once they get to each major navigation point. Teams that radio in after the check-point cut off time will be deducted five points from the team score for every 10 minutes late.
  • At prescribed times, teams are required to make a radio check with base to advise their approximate location, map grid reference and estimated distance to the next navigation check point. Points can be lost from the team score for navigational errors requiring assistance from the base operator.
  • The team abseil will be managed by two experienced guides. Teams will be awarded 5 points for each member who performs a successful abseil decent.
  • The rafting course has six coded cones or pumpkins. Raft teams 4 to 6 persons, must navigate the course collecting the codes from the top of each of the pumpkins. Teams will be awarded 5 points for each correct code collected and given to the guide (verbally is OK) on completion of the course.
  • Rafting guides will award a score out of 20 for boat control, team oarsmanship and the finesse with which each raft navigates the big rapid.
