Orienteering:
Its a fun group
activity. The
ability to use a compass and navigate using a contour map are
valuable life skills that provide excitement and challenge and
may, one day, get you out of trouble. Stirling
Experience have a number of established courses set within the
Mt.Stirling Alpine Resort. Checkpoints are set within the
safety network of the mountain trail system. Participants must
navigate in teams using compass bearing and map reading skills
to complete the courses. Orienteering
sessions are normally run as half day activities (4 hour) and
include a formal hour class instruction session covering
compass reading and map interpretation, followed by some dead-reckoning
exercises before undertaking the two hour course. All
check-points are off trail, with the search requiring
scrambling through the forest so sturdy shoes are advisable. Optimum
orienteering group sizes range from 10 to 60 participants.
Please ensure participants bring a water bottle. Orienteering
may be combined with a summit walk or mountain biking to
provide an enjoyable full day program. See
