year round in the Mt Buller/Mt Stirling area of the Victorian Alps.
Our clients have unparalleled access to some of
Australia’s best alpine touring and backcountry terrain in
Winter, and alpine meadows, tracks and bluffs for hiking and Mt
Biking through the summer.
Winter Programs and Courses
During
Winter
we offer winter touring courses for beginner to advanced levels in
skiing and back country snowboarding as well as snowshoe tours for those who
want to explore the winter wilderness on foot.
Winter
touring
can be a hazardous undertaking. Skiers and Boarders need more than
the right equipment. They require sound judgement and learned
skills to fully understand the risks and processes involved when
exploring the backcountry. This is what BaseAlpine offers you.
1.
Razorback Huts and Lower Trails
A
perfect program for the new adventurer. A totally adaptable program to accommodate any level of group. The
picturesque lower trails of the Mt Stirling resort offer excellent
exploring and skiing. Sheltered trails are ideal in all weather
and accessibility to comfortable facilities makes this a favourite
for those who want to develop their skills. Those new to skiing
can enjoy a night in the snow without having to be an experienced
skier or camper.

Bluff Spur and Stirling Summit
Experience
a fantastic
overnight ski-tour of the upper reaches of Mt Stirling resort.
Intermediate level skiers will be introduced to the skills and
knowledge required for overnight and extended ski-tours while
advancing their skills.
If
you are looking to get away from the crowds and enjoy the beauty
of winter in the Alps this is the program for you. Good aerobic
fitness required for this course.

Craig’s Hut Ski Tour
The
iconic Craig’s Hut
is our objective on this overnight program, well known for it’s
picturesque location and setting in Australia’s favourite
stockman movie; “The Man from Snowy River”.
This
program is catered to the intermediate to advanced skier and those
wanting to move into the realm of backcountry/overnight touring.
Learn the fundamentals of reading alpine weather, how to survive
comfortably and ski safely in a remote environment.
Peaceful
trails and fresh tracks await you as we explore the outer reaches
of Mt Stirling resort.

4.
Backcountry Skills Course
The
Backcountry Skills Course is
designed for the advanced skier and snowboarder looking to learn
skills and techniques to make backcountry terrain fun and safe.
Over
4 days you will complete workshops covering avalanche awareness,
backcountry travel and navigation, survival techniques, snow-pack
analysis and stability, terrain assessment and selection, minimal
impact backcountry camping and alpine weather prediction.
This
course runs from mid-July to early September, numbers
limited/course.

School Programs
BaseAlpine
can design a program for your schools needs, whether your school
has a ski development program in place or you are looking for an
Outdoor Ed alternative. BaseAlpine can include educational
rationale into our normal skills development and guiding and can
cater for all levels of skier ability. These courses facilitate
years 7-12, with larger groups welcome.
